Penguin Poets Series
The Penguin Poets series began in June 1941 with a selection of poetry by Tennyson. This was followed by a second volume by Wordsworth nearly two years later, and it was over three years further on, in December 1946, when the third book 'D3' by Burns was published.
Various styles of cover designs were used for the series. Jan Tschichold created the cover style from D5. His successor, Hans Schmoller, designed a new cover format - and from 1954 the Poetry books had their distinctive patterned style. Elizabeth Friedlander was the earliest, and best known of the designers, starting the work in 1949.
All of these books are originals, published by Penguin Books. All books are in good to very good condition but please note there may be corner folds, inscriptions, tears, signs of wear etc. in or on these books which are not shown in photographs. This is reflected in the prices shown. All are Penguin 1st editions unless otherwise stated.
